Data protection

This website is is hosted by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Controller according to Art. 4, par. 7 GDPR is the President of KIT, Professor Dr.-Ing. Holger Hanselka, Kaiserstrasse 12, 76131 Karlsruhe, Germany, info@kit.edu. The Data Protection Commissioner of KIT can be contacted at datenschutzbeauftragter@kit.edu or by ordinary mail with "Die Datenschutzbeauftragte" (the data protection commissioner) being indicated on the envelope.

Connection data

When using the website for information purposes only, i.e. when you do not register or transmit other information, we will only collect the personal data that are transmitted by your browser to our server according to the settings made by you. For viewing our website, we collect the data required for this purpose and needed for ensuring stability and security according:

  • the IP address of the requesting client,
  • the date and time of the access,
  • the type of the request,
  • the status of the request,
  • the amount of transferred data, and
  • the user agent of the client (which contains information about the browser and the operating system).

The log files are kept for security reasons and are deleted after a maximum of 14 days. The information in these logs can be evaluated for statistical purposes, but you as an individual will remain anonymous.

User accounts

On our GitLab instance git.opencarp.org we offer users the possibility to register a user account. The data is entered into an input mask, transmitted to us and stored. The data will not be passed on to third parties. The following mandatory data is collected during the registration process:

  • Full name of the user
  • Email address of the user

In addition, a number of optional fields can be provided by the user.

The user accounts can be created by connecting git.opencarp.org to ORCID using the OpenID-connect protocol. Orcid is operated by ORCID Inc., 10411 Motor City Drive, Suite 750, Bethesda MD 20817, USA; Privacy policy: https://orcid.org/content/orcid-privacy-policy.

When connecting git.opencarp.org with ORCID, the user is first directed to the ORCID web page to authenticate and authorize the release of his/her email and ORCIDid to our service. This can be revoked on the ORCID web page or by deleting the account on git.opencarp.org.

Embedded Content

On some parts of our web page, we embed content of YouTube and Twitter. When using these web pages, similar data as descibed under Connection data is transmitted to the particular service provider.

Your Rights

As far as your personal data stored by us are concerned, you have the following rights:

  • Right of access
  • Right to rectification or erasure
  • Right to restriction of processing
  • Right to object to data processing
  • Right to data portability

(2) In addition, you have the right to complain about the processing of your personal data by us with a supervisory authority. (3) In the case of manifestly unfounded or excessive requests, we can charge a reasonable fee. Otherwise, information will be provided free of charge. (4) In the case of reasonable doubts concerning the identity of the natural person asserting the above rights, we may request the provision of additional information necessary to confirm the identity of the data subject.
